Dr. Ellen Janetzke (“Dr. Ellen” to her patients) is a board certified Plastic Surgeon and one of the few female surgeons with a special interest in breast augmentation and reduction. She received her Bachelor of Arts with Honors and Distinction in 1990 from the University of Michigan before earning her medical degree in 1994 from Wayne State University School of Medicine. Her post-graduate work included a surgical internship in 1994-1995 at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania, a General Surgery Residency at William Beaumont Hospital from 1995 to 1998, and a Surgery Fellowship at the Detroit Medical Center in 1998-1999. She was a Plastic Surgery Fellow at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia in 1999-2001, and was Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 2002.

While setting the highest standards of professional ethics and surgical techniques, Dr. Ellen has also perfected another important aspect of the doctor-patient relationship: listening. Her ability to understand, anticipate and fulfill patient expectations honestly and realistically has gained her a reputation as both a gifted surgeon and a fine doctor.

When not performing surgery, Dr. Ellen pursues one of her many interests including riding her Harley-Davidson or playing golf. She’s comfortable with either classical or heavy metal music and plays both the oboe and the organ. Her interests are ever expanding, but foremost in her thoughts is how her patients look and feel after surgery.

Dr. Ellen’s back! Find out how she’s tightening tummies after massive weight loss.

Who: It’s great to see you again, Dr. Ellen. You know, you’re one of our most sought after guests – we still get calls inquiring about you. Last time we talked, you were the breast surgeon extraordinaire.
Dr. Ellen: Well that’s still a main part of my practice. In fact since I’ve seen you last, I’ve done over 500 breast procedures. We do many other types of procedures as well.

Who: What kind of procedures?
Dr. Ellen: A lot of women who come to me want to change more than one thing about their bodies, especially after massive weight loss.

Who: Massive weight loss?
Dr. Ellen: That’s when a patient loses more than 100 pounds.

Who: And what do you do for those patients?
Dr. Ellen: Most of them have a large amount of excess skin, usually in the abdomen area, so we end up doing what most people refer to as a tummy tuck. It’s also good for women who have 25 to 40 pounds to lose.

Who: Is this something that’s covered by insurance?
Dr. Ellen: Many insurance companies, once you’ve lost over a hundred pounds, will pay for the tummy tuck.

Who: Tell me about some of the results of your patients.
Dr. Ellen: Well, a lot of them actually get more than one procedure done at the same time because of skin in the back area as well as the stomach. Many times the breasts are also affected.

Who: Does that make the surgery more complicated?
Dr. Ellen: No, not for my patients. The recovery time is about the same and they only have to have anesthesia once.

Who: That makes sense.
Dr. Ellen: A lot of them are surprised at the results they can get. Many of them have never had a flat stomach in their lives, and now they do!

Who: They must feel great about that!
Dr. Ellen: They do and it’s great to see the results.
